Making a difference in a child's life

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”

Psalm 127:3

Meet your Therapist

Shamaine & Erik Dahl

I studied in the Philippines for my Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy and am currently finishing my MA in SPED, with a concentration in Autism and Developmental Disabilities at the University of Texas Permian Basin. My passion for pediatric practice started when I was an intern assigned in a Pediatric setting in the Philippines.

My experience working with pediatric therapy for over 6 years and being a teacher for both private and public schools in Thailand has helped me understand the needs and support that a child needs. I consider this my passion and my calling.

My husband Erik Dahl, is a Certified Occupational Assistant, a graduate of Houston Community College, and also an active part of the Therapy Dept in an SF in this area. We look forward to serving the children with special needs in the city of El Campo.

Vision

To Honor God and make a difference in the lives of children with special needs so they can reach their full potential and fly their wings.

Mission

To provide excellent service using an approach that fits the child's need, incorporating play and adapting activities to improve the child's mental, emotional, developmental, social, and life skills. It is my goal to encourage a child with special needs to believe in their gifts and skills so they can function with confidence and independence in their daily life, and be able to live in a safe environment with the support of their family and the community surrounding them.

  • Occupational Therapy involves the use of purposeful activity or therapeutic interventions constructed to facilitate functional outcomes. Occupational therapy is a profession that helps people to do the occupations that are important to them, especially when they face challenges due to their illness or disabilities.

Play is the primary occupation of children. Learning through play is a critical aspect of childhood development. OT uses play to build skills needed for every aspect of a child's development. When it comes to kids, play is the main means of learning, development, interaction, and growth for a child. Play is a child's main occupation where they learn the skills to be successful at school, at home, and in the community.

At i-Pedia Therapy we focus on improving a child's development in the areas of gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory processing, cognitive skills, play skills, social/emotional skills, self-care skills, language development, and visual processing skills. Children grow and develop at different rates. While their developmental pathways may differ, most pass a set of predictable milestones along the way. Delays in development are best addressed as early as possible to ensure your child's best outcome. Looking at each child's occupation of play, incorporating it into different approaches, and teaching them new skills through play is our priority.

  • I-Pedia Therapy offers in-clinic therapy services in El Campo, Tx.

  • i-Pedia Therapy is often covered by out-of-network benefits. We recommend you call your insurance company to determine what percentage is covered for out-of-network therapy. Clients may use out-of-network coverage or private pay. Documentation for parents to submit to insurance for reimbursement can be provided on request. Please check with your insurance to learn more about reimbursement options. Payments for therapy will be collected at the time of service, usually before or after every therapy session. We accept credit cards, checks, and cash.

  • Occupational therapy treatment sessions are typically provided 2-3 times per week for 50-minute sessions.

Sessions are a full clinical hour (50 minutes of therapy plus 10 minutes of parent wrap-up, documentation, and scheduling.)

Our evaluations are comprehensive, and the time required for your child's evaluation will vary based on your child's individual needs and the complexity of the tests administered. Following the evaluation, your occupational therapist will recommend a frequency of intervention, based on your child's and family's needs.

During your child's therapy session, most of our parents remain in the waiting room. Typically, children participate at a greater level and/or transition more easily between activities without their parents present. If a parent wishes to leave the facility while their child is in session, please ensure that all contact information is up-to-date. We request that you return within adequate time to meet with your child's therapist to review their progress and suggested home activities.
